Respiratory Diseases

Head of Research Unit
Renato Cutrera

The Research Unit treats patients in chronic hypercapnic respiratory failure (a condition characterized by the excessive accumulation of carbon dioxide in the blood) who require long-term ventilation.

This treatment also includes patients suffering from sleep breathing pathologies (e.g. OSAS, obesity, malformation pathology of the upper airways, metabolic, neuromuscular pathologies and congenital central hypoventilation) and suffering from rare respiratory diseases (e.g. primary ciliary dyskinesia and diffuse lung disease).

The Unit also carries out clinical trials on rare respiratory diseases, developing and validating electro-medical devices, such as aerosol therapy and lung ventilators.

science and humanity to all children with
very severe diseases who need to be treated”
