Primary Immunodeficiencies
Head of Research Unit
Caterina Cancrini
The Research Unit deals with translating protocols based on second generation sequencing (NGS) technologies in order to accelerate the molecular diagnosis of Primary Immunodeficiencies (IDP).
It also identifies new pathogenetic mechanisms underlying immuno-dysregulation and/or autoimmunity in IDP to clarify the role of the different cellular components involved in the defense against pathogens and in the maintenance of tolerance.
The Unit also deals with predictive identifiers to identify better therapeutic strategies, with particular reference to patients with IDP and severe chronic cytopenia and lymphoproliferation. To evaluate, in the pediatric population with and without immunodeficiency, the genetic, environmental and immunological response susceptibility factors in severe tuberculous and non-tuberculous mycobacterium infections.
