Pathogenesis and Innovative Therapies in Infectious Diseases
Head of Research Unit
Alberto Villani
The Research Unit identifies the factors that favor the development of tuberculous and non-tuberculous mycobacterial diseases, researching the “unconventional” immunodeficiencies responsible for susceptibility to mycobacterial infections.
It also identifies, with the help of new diagnostic techniques, the pathogenesis of infections of the osteoarticular system in developmental age and searches for markers capable of promoting diagnosis and allowing timely targeted therapy to reduce hospital stays.
It also deals with identifiers for the differential diagnosis between Kawasaki disease and MIS-C (Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome).
