Department of Specialized Surgery
Director
Alessandro Inserra
The Department of Specialized Surgery dedicates its surgical skills to the diagnosis and treatment of different types of diseases. The strength of the Department consists in the integration of multiple specialist surgical skills, always with a patient-centered approach. The Department adopts organizational models in which the concept of “organ disease” is effectively overcome and replaced by the concept of “person”, in the broader sense of the term. A better use of medical and nursing skills makes it possible to respond more adequately to the needs of children and teenagers.
In 2019, there were 12,228 ordinary hospitalizations (+ 8% compared to 2018), while 3,307 outpatient procedures, 4,825 outpatient surgical procedures, and 231,588 outpatient services (+ 9% compared to 2018) were provided, with an increase in outpatient activities, in compliance with the Ministry guidelines.
In recent years, the quality of care has increased thanks to the more multidisciplinary management of hospitalization spaces, that led to a more effective use of the resources available. Furthermore, the integration of the different Hospital facilities allowed for a better implementation of the “clinical care pathways”.
