The Department of Specialized Pediatrics and Kidney and Liver Transplantation is composed of pediatric Complex Operating Units characterized by high specialization, breakthrough treatments, and a strong commitment to clinical and translational research.
The activities of the Department also include the management of kidney, liver, intestinal, and lung transplants, in close collaboration with the Departments of Specialized Surgery and Cardiology, and with the Resuscitation Units of the Hospital.
The Department is a reference center for the following European Reference Networks (ERNs) for rare diseases: the network for rare hereditary metabolic disorders (Metabern); the network for rare immunodeficiency, autoinflammatory and autoimmune diseases (Rita); the network for rare lung diseases (Ern Lung); the network for rare kidney diseases (Erknet); and the network for pediatric transplantation (Ern Transplant Child).
The scientific activities of the Department rely on dedicated research laboratories and include the participation in numerous clinical trials.
