The Department of Cardiac Surgery, Cardiology and Heart-Lung Transplantation is a national and international reference center for the diagnosis and treatment of all pediatric cardiovascular diseases and congenital heart diseases, including their consequences in adult patients.
The Department also implemented a program for the treatment of cardio-respiratory failure, including heart and lung transplantation and cardiocirculatory mechanical assistance. The activity of the Department is divided into seven Complex Operating Units, two Simple Departmental Units and six Simple Operating Units.
Outpatient services are provided in all 5 Hospital facilities, while patients are hospitalized in Palidoro, mainly for Arrhythmology, and in the Gianicolo headquarters for Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery.
Many collaborations have been developed with other Departments of the Hospital (Birth path, Laringo-tracheal team), as well as with other Hospitals, mainly for adult congenital heart diseases (Guch).
In 2020, 1,781 ordinary hospitalization services, 5,501 day hospital services and 62,730 outpatient services were provided. In terms of scientific activity, last year the participation in international networks and clinical trials increased. Furthermore, 45 articles were published in peer-reviewed international journals.
