Object of the collaboration is remote training of medical staff, with residential training and on-the-job training missions. St. Gaspar in Itigi is a hospital located in a particularly poor territory of ​​sub-equatorial Africa.

OPBG has been working with this hospital for years, offering healhcare to the people of Manyoni District.

Our Mission Today

St. Gaspar College is a school for doctors and nurses that has been active for many years at the St. Gaspar hospital, very well organized with adequate premises and modern teaching tools. The school trains around 250 doctors and nurses a year.

The on-the-job training possible within St. Gaspar represents a special opportunity, both for students who can start clinical practice early in a high-level structure, and for the Hospital itself, which can make use of the operational contribution of young resources motivated to learn the profession.



Tanzania is a country with over 57 million inhabitants, a per capita income of $2.9/day, an expected lifespan at birth of 67 and 64 years for women and men respectively, but an age distribution that is predominantly youth, with 44% of the population under 14 (47% in the Singida region) and only 6% (5%) over 65.

The infant mortality rate is equal to 43/1,000 live births (2012 data) and the 10 main causes of death are: neonatal disorders; lower respiratory tract infections; HIV/AIDS; ischemic heart disease; Tuberculosis; Birth defects; Malaria; diarrheal Diseases; stroke; Diabetes.

The St. Gaspar Referral and Teaching Hospital (SGRTH), with which Bambino Gesù has collaborated for many years, is a hospital located in the city of Itigi – in central Tanzania – which is approximately 164 km west of Dodoma City (present-day capital) and 118 km from the city of Singida, in the relatively sparsely populated region of the same name (1.2 million inhabitants, growing by 2.5% per year in rural areas). It is a particularly poor territory in sub-equatorial Africa.
